South South Solidarity (SSS) , a international development organization, works with civil society and voluntary organizations to strengthen equitable and people-centred sustainable development in countries of the South. SSS believes that the development concerns of South Countries are different from thouse of the North. Hence , the programmes place emphasis on cooperation at peoples level among the countries of the South, so that they can evolve strategies to respond to their emerging develoment needs.

SSS is also concerned with widening the scope for exchange of people and development communication on South-based issues and priorities. In its solidarity action it identifies with both macro and micro development problems and people’s movements in the South. The prime aim of this approach is the endeavour to evolve a set of solutions that promote ecological viability, justice and economic equity.

South-South Solidarity drew on the expertise that it identified particularly in India, Nepal and Bangladesh to raise “south issues” that would have resonance among other south countries. Some of these issues related to:

  • The relationship of indigenous people to forest areas;
  • Environment and development issues;
  • Ecological health determinants,
  • Community health,
  • Women’s development and so forth.
